Congress gherao CM house in Patna, clash with cops; Kanhaiya Kumar & several others detained

Tensions escalated in Patna on Friday as Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar and over 30 Congress workers, including Youth Congress National President Uday Bhan and State President Garib Das, were detained by police. The detentions occurred as they attempted to march towards Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s residence, as part of the final leg of the "Stop Migration – Give Jobs" yatra.

The protest, which began peacefully, turned confrontational when police used water cannons to halt the demonstrators. Despite the heavy water spray, protestors refused to back down, prompting the police to detain several participants and transport them to the police station by bus.

Speaking during the protest, Kanhaiya Kumar criticized the authorities for using excessive force and remarked, “This water would be better used in people’s homes under the Nal-Jal scheme rather than on peaceful protestors.” He further demanded that the police either arrange a dialogue with the Chief Minister or arrest them all.

The protest was the culmination of Kanhaiya Kumar’s Bihar-wide yatra aimed at addressing unemployment and mass migration. The march has attracted major Congress leaders over the past week. Notably, Rahul Gandhi joined the yatra in Begusarai, while Sachin Pilot showed support in Patna.

Clashes between Congress workers and police continued even after the leaders were taken into custody. Protestors raised slogans, accusing the Bihar government of ignoring the plight of the youth and failing to deliver on employment promises.

On Thursday, Kanhaiya Kumar had posted on X urging citizens to join the final leg of the protest from Patna Sahib. His message called for unity and action to “build a new Bihar” focused on jobs, dignity, and rights.
